The Unprecedented Demands of the Current e-Commerce Boom

ecommerce boom

From severe port congestion and equipment shortages to record-setting ocean freight rates, 2020 was filled with unprecedented events, including eCommerce sales.

With brick-and-mortar retail locations forced to close their doors due to state regulations, consumers turned to online shopping to meet their needs.

According to eMarketer, worldwide eCommerce saw overall growth of 27.6%, roughly eleven percent higher than their mid-pandemic estimation of 16.5%. This rapid uptick increased the demand for warehousing and eCommerce fulfillment services by retailers large and small. Year over year, GLC saw an increase of 60% in eCommerce fulfillment demand, prompting rapid hiring and expansion of our warehousing capabilities.

In Q1, 2021, GLC Distribution will acquire 200K square feet of warehousing nationwide. These added facilities will be located in Compton, CA, in Los Angeles South Bay area, close to Long Beach/Los Angeles Port and LAX, Chicago, Illinois, and Miami, Florida. They will focus on eCommerce fulfillment from the first mile to the final mile, including FBA, FBM, custom white-glove kitting services, VMI, and EDI. These facilities are in addition to GLC Distribution’s existing assets in Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, and Charleston, with Charleston offering a low-cost alternative to New York warehousing and distribution.
